Grand Ronde Community Park

GRAND RONDE, OR – Grasstains is proud to announce the successful completion of the Grand Ronde Community Park, a premier outdoor destination that redefines play through natural integration and universal accessibility. Completed in the Summer of 2025, the project was delivered on time and on budget through a close collaboration between the Grand Ronde Tribe’s development team and the landscape architects at Learning Landscapes.

The 2.5-acre wooded site has been transformed into a multi-sensory environment designed to serve children of all ages and abilities. The park features specialized zones for ages 2–5 and 5–12, anchored by custom log scrambles and balance beams. A signature "Boulder Scramble Mound"—complete with an integrated boulder cave—offers a rugged, adventurous contrast to traditional active play equipment, emphasizing a deep connection to nature play.

Central to the project’s mission is universal accessibility. Grasstains engineered meandering ADA-compliant concrete pathways that weave through the entire parcel, ensuring the beauty of the wooded landscape is reachable for every visitor. This commitment to inclusion extends into the sand and water play area, where accessible bridges cross over a "sand river." This interactive feature includes water play tables and channels that allow children to actively pump water and watch it travel down custom sand passages, activating immersive imaginative play opportunities for all users.

Project Highlights:

Nature & Creative Play: Custom timber features, willow tunnels, and huts encourage imaginative and passive play within a holistic nature play framework.

Sand and Water Play: A sensory discovery section featuring a Bison pump, water tables, and bridges that facilitate creative engineering and "sand river" navigation.

Community Gathering: A sprawling open lawn and picnic facilities are framed by extensive native landscaping to enhance local biodiversity and site aesthetics.

Infrastructure: Enhanced ADA parking and streamlined access points to accommodate the entire community.

"Working alongside the Grand Ronde Tribe and Learning Landscapes allowed us to execute a vision that balances active play with environmental stewardship," said the Grasstains project team. "We are honored to have built a space where creative, sensory, and physical play can thrive through native landscaping and intentional design."
