Hazel Sills Park: A Universally Accessible Playground

We are proud to unveil the completely transformed Hazel Sills Park. What was once a standard pocket park is now a premier destination for inclusive, community-focused play.

Working closely with Learning Landscapes Design and the City of Forest Grove, Grasstains guided this project from extensive community outreach and City Council presentations all the way through to final construction. The result is a significant upgrade in both play value and site infrastructure, ensuring that residents of all ages and abilities can enjoy the space together.

Project Highlights
Universal Accessibility: We installed new ADA-compliant sidewalks and strategic curb cuts, creating a seamless connection between the neighborhood greenway, the adjacent street, and the park’s internal play features.

Inclusive Play Surfaces: The playground features Rubberway® Poured-in-Place rubber surfacing, providing a durable, cushioned, and fully accessible base for wheelchairs, mobility devices, and strollers.

High-Energy Equipment: We installed world-class equipment from Landscape Structures Inc. (LSI)—including the challenging Crab Trap® climber and the exhilarating Global Motion® spinner—designed to foster physical development and social play.

Infrastructure Upgrades: A brand-new, high-efficiency irrigation system was installed to support the park's long-term health and reduce water waste.

Environmental Comfort: We integrated new shade trees and upgraded site furnishings, creating a comfortable, welcoming environment for passive recreation and community gatherings.
